Lockets History
Lockets have a very long history and can be described as a pendant that opens to reveal a space used for storing powder or poisons, keepsakes, good luck charms, hair, ashes and pictures.
Lockets are generally worn on chains around the neck or form a part of a charm bracelet, come in many shapes such as ovals, hearts and circles and are usually made of precious metals such as gold and silver.
Lockets usually hold only one or two photographs, but some specially made lockets can hold up to eight.
In Victorian times the lockets were very popular and were decorated with seed pearls, gem stones in bright colours and sometimes diamonds with old miner's cuts. Round and heart shaped lockets were probably the most popular, with many of them being monogrammed with the owners' initials.
